This page will take us to dry land....More of my watercolors in which one can see my gradual and sort of painful transition into improving my detailing techniques a bit. I must say it is difficult to let go of oil painting methods because the order of applying values in watercolor painting is in reverse order from oil methods, so dark, medium, and light become light, medium, and dark. There were a few times I almost ruined a light area by applying dark paint first which would have stained the area and made it impossible to lift off the paint sufficiently to leave the area light, so one wrong move can ruin hours of work. I must remember that in watercolor; white is acheived by leaving the white paper undisturbed

Road to Amaus
By Timothy Fenwick
On Arches rough textured 300 lb. cold pressed watercolor paper.
This painting was done after some meditation of just what I thought the whole of the message of the gospel was since the Holy Spirit was given because of Jesus' sacrifice and his "finishing" what the Father had given him to do. Until God revealed the Messiah to the hearts of men, all of the prophecies concerning Jesus were mere facts of scripture, and not alive within men. When the two disciples on the road to Emaus met with Jesus (though they didn't recognise him until until after he had disappeared from their sight) and the Holy Spirit revealed WHO Jesus really was, their hearts "burned" within them and the prophecies down though Jewish history came alive in them! This moment of their "burning hearts" is what this painting depicts. For me as a Christian, this moment is the pivotal beginning of the message of GOOD NEWS; "He is not here, He has risen as he said."
