Paintings in Watercolor

Original paintings by Timothy Fenwick

The following images are watercolor subjects that I have compiled of what I think are my most satisfying , or at least the ones that are nearest to what I had envisioned before I created them.  It is commonly said around art circles that an artist should have a little guy with a hammer in the back of their mind and when HE knows it is time to stop and all is done, he should give you a "thunk" on the back of the head.  In some cases, however, I think we should also have a little guy with a hammer who knows when it is time NOT to quit, and continue, because sometimes some our better work was at one time a failure, but faith and a little labor paid off.......So stick to it!! You'll be proud of yourself!!  I will soon be adding some of my oil paintings for you to see the difference in the two mediums. It simply is a fact that there are some effects and moods that only oil paint can achieve.

This spot appeals to both the artist and fisherman in me. There is (in my opinion) no better set of elements for a beautiful image than a sunrise, falling or cascading water, and a glorious sky.!  They always hold me spellbound.

When I think of Ireland, I always envision a place like this. Never having been there, I must content myself with imagination. I always think the green would be greener and there is maybe a leprechaun under every stone bridge. Maybe some day I will go there, but being In Texas won't stop me from trying to bring Ireland here.

Hawaii is the one place I can think of where an artist could find the perfect seascape inspiration. The combination of sun, surf, and waves would be like heaven to me..... If I had a choice of places to see, or even live the rest of my life; it would have to be this paradise on Earth.

Here is an oil painting mounted on my easel. It is not really a refined image, but I thought someone might enjoy it.  I sold it quite a while ago, but I intend to make it available as a print at imagekind very soon. You can see what I mean when I say oil is the only way to accomplish certain effects. It would be difficult indeed to display grass such as this using watercolor only.  Also the intensity of the sunlight seen here would be quite difficult to pull off using anything but oil paints. Even though this site is named "watercolor" worlds,it's just a sneak peek at what I will soon be showing when I build a new site using the new paintings I have done since this site was published more than a year ago.
